My first painting postpartum - surprisingly quite illustrative but still flowing with the water theme I was busy with during my pregnancy.
Becoming a mother turned my whole world upside down. It is one of the hardest things I've ever done - catching me quite by surprise! My birth was a very traumatic experience and to add to my anxiety I had to take care of a colicky baby - post surgery - on little to no sleep. "Wetland Stillness" embodies the calm that I never had at the time I painted it. It's interesting too to see my colour choice at the time - a calming blue - a colour palette I'd never used before. Also, the painting depicts a night scene - usually a quiet time of rest - but the opposite was my experience away from the canvas. I think it's important to know that this painting was not pre-planned but painted intuitively. Thankfully - in paint - there is solitude! Painting continues to be my meditation, my place of transformation and self discovery.
